So, you have finally moved into your new house. But it doesn’t look like your dream house yet, right? All you’re surrounded with are piles of cartons and boxes. You are excited to settle in your new house, but the amount of work is just too overwhelming. So, what to do in such a case? Well, we have got the answer for you!
Here are a few tips that you can follow while unpacking after a move.
Distribute the Boxes Smartly
Move-in days can be quite crazy. You are likely to be in a rush and empty the van or truck as fast as possible. You will probably be tempted to throw all of the moving cartons on a pile near the door thinking you’d sort them out at another time. However, we would advise you to never do that. Instead, place the boxes properly in the rooms they belong to.
Moreover, this is where labeling your boxes will come in handy. Ideally, you must have all of the boxes properly labeled. Write the name of the room in which they belong on each of the boxes. Notably, this will save you from the hassle of sorting through everything multiple times and bringing a box to the wrong room.
Clean Thoroughly
Every property is “broom cleaned” before a new family moves in. But it means that only the visible dirt will be removed. Given that, you should give your house a deep clean before you finally start to unpack. Also, make sure to keep some cleaning essentials with you during the move, including paper towels, a broom, and all-purpose cleaners.
Unpack Rooms in Order of Priority
When you’re ready to unpack, you might want to do it in an orderly manner. However, we recommend you unpack room-by-room while following an order of priority. This means you should unpack one room entirely at one time, instead of just grabbing the important things and leaving the rest of the things for later.
Surely, it seems like a huge task upfront. However, this is a great way to stop piles of boxes with non-essential items staying piled up even after you have settled in the house.
As far as the order in which you should unpack is concerned, start with the bedroom first. Once the bedroom is done, you can head to bed easily whenever you feel exhausted. Next, tackle the kitchen. After that, move to the main living space, followed by lesser-used rooms like the dining room, formal living area, and guest bedroom. Also, don’t forget the garage and basement.
Declutter One Last Time
You must be very tired of decluttering at this point. But this probably will be the last time you need to declutter before finally settling in your new home. Here decluttering means that for everything you take out of the boxes, you need to have a rough idea about where it should be placed. Also, make sure to put every item in its place as soon as possible. Place the items back in the box that has no fixed place in your new house.
